[ARCHIVED] Police Investigating Dead Body Found At Geneva Golf Club

Geneva Police and Fire departments were dispatched at 1:29 p.m. Dec. 26 to investigate a dead body located in a creek at the Geneva Golf Club, 831 South St.

Upon their arrival, safety personnel found a man lying face down in the creek near hole No. 6, and he appeared to be unresponsive. Firefighters investigated and then contacted Delnor Hospital, where the man was pronounced deceased at 1:50 p.m.

The man has been identified as John A. Gaines, 74, of Geneva. He was a long-time resident of the community and husband of Jean Gaines, the Geneva Chamber of Commerce President.

Police are investigating the circumstances of Gaines’ activities prior to his death. Though there is nothing to indicate foul play and/or criminal activity, the Geneva Police Department will continue to investigate the circumstances of this case until a cause of death has been determined by the Kane County Coroner’s Office.

At this time, the thoughts and prayers of City of Geneva personnel/employees go out to the Gaines family.
