Geneva was ranked the seventh safest mid-sized city in Illinois according to recent FBI crime stats and information sourced by the financial organization ValuePenguin.
Data was collected from the 2014 FBI crime statistics with the study giving more emphasis to violent crime opposed to property crime. The ValuePenguin survey, which ranked 291 communities with populations of 5,000 or greater throughout the state, listed Geneva as:
30th safest overall (1 = best, 145 = average for this rank and others below)
24th in violent crime
43rd in property crime
Small suburbs with high median household incomes, low levels of poverty and high rates of homeownership landed in the top five safest communities. These towns include Hawthorn Woods, Clarendon Hills, Campton Hills, Western Springs and Hampshire. All these communities have populations of 15,000 or less.
The safest mid-sized communities, which have populations between 15,000 and 30,000, are Lake in the Hills, Homer Glen, Lake Forest, Deerfield, Frankfort, Huntley, Geneva, Charleston, Hinsdale and Shorewood.
