No one was injured during a house fire that appears to have started accidentally from improperly discarding charcoal ashes into a plastic trash container just after 10 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 14 at 3333 Hillcrest Road in the Fisher Farms subdivision on Geneva’s northwest side.
The resident called 911 after discovering smoke coming into the residence from the garage. Geneva Police officers were first on the scene and reported smoke coming from the garage. Officers also confirmed that the resident who had contacted 911 was the only occupant home at the time, and had already evacuated the home.
Upon arrival of the Geneva Fire Department moments later, firefighters found a small fire inside the garage, and that the fire had not extended into the home. The fire was extinguished within 10 minutes. Companies remained on the scene to ensure the fire had not extended and to evacuate smoke from the residence. Damage estimates are still being compiled and are not available at this time.
Firefighters from St. Charles, Batavia, Elburn and West Chicago provided assistance to Geneva during the incident.
