[ARCHIVED] Kane County To Begin Pavement Preservation Project Aug. 30

Kane County will begin applying an asphalt sealer/rejuvenator on the county routes, including several that run through Geneva, starting Tuesday, Aug. 30.

These roads have been resurfaced within the last two years. The material placed on the road will extend the life of the asphalt by reducing the water penetration that leads to freeze/thaw damage along with preventing oxidation of the asphalt material. The process will involve spraying the rejuvenator liquid, allowing the liquid to cure, placing sand on the treated roads for traction, and then sweeping up the excess material.

This work is estimated to take two weeks, pending weather. Portions of higher volume roads (such as Randall Road and Kirk Road) will be worked on overnight to reduce the impact to the motoring public. A list of the roads to be treated this year and the working times (Monday to Friday) are listed below.

Roads will remain open and temporary lane closures will be required to accomplish this work. Motorists should expect delays while traveling through the work areas. Motorists should consider adding additional time to their commutes and are recommended to use alternate routes while this work is being completed.

Motorists need to be prepared to reduce their speed, exercise caution, and be extra alert. Drivers must watch for and obey flaggers and other traffic control devices within the work zone. A reminder – it is illegal for drivers to talk on a cell phone while driving through a highway construction work zone.
