The next Kane County Recycles Event will be held from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, Nov. 12, 540 S. Randall Road, St. Charles. There will not be another weekend recycling event until the second Saturday in Jan. 14, 2017.
This Saturday, you can recycle electronics like computers, keyboards, laptops, printers, televisions (any size or age), stereos, cell phones, microwaves, Christmas lights, and more. We unload for you! A complete list of accepted items, and more information can be found on the
County's website.
Cost for TVs and monitors
There will be a fee for TVs and computer monitors – both tube and flat screen - across the board for all drop-off locations and the event. You will find that there is a cost for these items pretty much everywhere these days.
The fee will be $25 for screens 20 inches and under (measured diagonally) and $35 for screens 21 inches and over. The great news is that all other acceptable electronic items can be dropped off for free. See the
full list of items that can be recycled in the program.
The fee may be paid online in advance or onsite by exact cash or card. It is recommended that you
pay online in advance if possible and bring your receipt to any drop-off or the collection event. You must have the receipt with you.
The fee that you pay for screened equipment goes directly to the County’s contracted electronics recycler, eWorks, a non-profit whose main mission is to employ developmentally disabled individuals.
Books, Paint & Documents
We take books of any age and condition for reuse or recycling.
Liquid Latex paint is the only item that has a recycling fee* per container, payable by the resident with cash or check. It is $2 per pint, $3.50 per gallon, and $10 per 5-gallon bucket. Latex paint is non-toxic but difficult to dispose of normally because you have to dry it out before placing it in your landfill trash. However, it can be easily recycled into new products with no drying out necessary! No oil based product will be accepted. Cash or check only for the paint, please.
Bring your confidential documents in paper bags or boxes. Limit is 4 boxes. This is for residents only. No documents from businesses please. More guidelines can be found on the
County's website.
We do not accept hazardous waste or large household appliances like washers and refrigerators.
