[ARCHIVED] Kane County Electronics, Book Recycling Event Scheduled For Jan. 14

The next Kane County Recycles Event will be held from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, Jan. 14 at the Kane County Circuit Clerk's Office, 540 S. Randall Road, St. Charles.

At the upcoming event, people can recycle books of any age and condition and electronics like computers, keyboards, laptops, printers, stereos, cell phones, microwaves, Christmas lights, and more. The County program also takes televisions (any size or age) and monitors, but there is a cost. Crews will unload for you.

A complete list of accepted items, and more information can be found on the Kane County Recycles webpage. The program does not accept hazardous waste or large household appliances like washers and refrigerators.

Residents also can use any of the electronics recycling drop offs that are open eight hours a day Monday through Friday. Hours and locations are available online.

Cost For TVs & Monitors
There will be a fee for TVs and computer monitors – both tube and flat screen - across the board for all drop-off locations and the event. People will find that there is a cost for these items pretty much everywhere these days.

The fee will be $25 for screens under 21 inches (measured diagonally) and $35 for screens 21 inches and over.

The great news is that all other acceptable electronic items can be dropped off for free. A full list of acceptable items can be found on the county's website.

The fee may be paid online in advance or onsite by exact cash or card. It is recommended that you pay online in advance if possible and bring your receipt to any drop-off or the collection event. You must have the receipt with you.

The fee that you pay for screened equipment goes directly to the County’s contracted electronics recycler, eWorks, a non-profit whose main mission is to employ developmentally disabled individuals.

The next monthly collection event will be Saturday, April 1.

Questions: Kane County Recycling Coordinator, Jennifer Jarland, 630-208-3841, or send her an email at recycle@countyofkane.org.
