[ARCHIVED] No Injuries Reported In Hart Center Basement Fire

The Geneva Fire Department responded to a fire shortly after 10 a.m. Nov. 27 at the Hart Center for Alternative Medicine, 127 S. Second St., in downtown Geneva. The owner of the business called 911 to report the fire.

Upon arrival, firefighters located the fire in the business’ basement. The fire was contained to a small area of the basement and did not extend to the upper floors. The business owner was the sole occupant inside the building at the time and was able to escape after discovering the fire. While searching the building, firefighters did successfully located a dog and cat that were removed to safety. Nobody was injured in the incident.

Preliminary investigation revealed the fire was accidental, ignited by combustible materials that were stored too close to the building’s furnace. No damage estimate is available at this time.

The Geneva Fire Department was assisted on the scene by crews from St. Charles, Batavia and Elburn.
