The next Kane County Recycles Event will be held from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, April 1 at the Kane County Circuit Court Clerk's Office, 540 S. Randall Road, St. Charles. The program will be recycling electronics, books, paint and offering free confidential document shredding.

Residents will be able to recycle electronics like computers, keyboards, laptops, printers, televisions (any size or age), stereos, cell phones, microwaves, Christmas lights, and more. All items will be unloaded from your car. A complete list of accepted items and more information can be found on Kane County's website.
 
Most electronic items can be dropped off for free, everything except for TVs and monitors, which have a cost.

Cost for TVs and monitors
TVs and computer monitors – both tube and flat screen – have a fee of $25 for screens under 21” (measured diagonally) and $35 for screens 21” and over.

The fee may be paid online in advance or onsite with cash or card. Exact change is appreciated. The fee that you pay for screened equipment goes directly to the County’s contracted electronics recycler, eWorks, a non-profit whose main mission is to employ developmentally disabled individuals.

Other Program Highlights
Books of any age and condition, paperback or hardcover, will be accepted for reuse and recycling.

Liquid latex paint and oil paint will be collected at this event. Paint also has a recycling fee per container, payable by the resident with cash or check. The costs are $2 per pint, $3.50 per gallon, and $10 per 5-gallon bucket.

Oil paint is now accepted at the event for a per can cost of $6 per gallon and $25 per 5-gallon bucket. This is for convenience only; please note that you can drop oil paint at the Naperville Hazardous Household Waste facility for free. Cash or check only for the paint, please.

Residents can shred confidential documents in paper bags or boxes. Limit four boxes per vehicle. This is for residents only, and no documents from businesses will be collected. Additional guidelines can be found on the County's website.
