Good news: Side streets from Stevens Street to South Street along Route 31 and from Woodward Avenue to Spring Street on Route 25 are now reopened to traffic after being closed last night due to hazardous driving conditions.
Crews will continue working today to cleanup streets around the City. Thank you for your patience, and have a great weekend Geneva!

We are salting all the snow routes and going through the residential streets. The barricades are still up (see our previous post) but the salt is working. We hope to have everything back to normal by noon.

With the rain hopefully done, Public Works crews are hitting the streets again with salt one more time tonight.
Another crew will start work again at 6 a.m. and will treat the roads again depending on the conditions.
The list of closed side streets are from Stevens Street to South Street along Route 31 and from Woodward Avenue to Spring Street on Route 25. These roads will remain closed overnight due to unsafe driving conditions. The Public Works Department will evaluate these streets again tomorrow morning.
As of 11 p.m., the Freezing Rain Advisory is set to expire at midnight.
Thank you for your patience.

The National Weather Service has issued a Freezing Rain Advisory for Kane County through midnight Jan. 11.
Public Works has two crews in trying to keep up with the icy conditions, but the hills are becoming an issue for motorists. With the rain still coming down, the salt is not lasting long enough. Crews have now switched to a sand mix.
Public Works is going to barricade off the side street hills and focus attention on the main arterial routes. The barricaded hill streets, which are primarily the side streets that run into Route 25 and Route 31, will likely remain closed until Saturday morning when our third crew reports for duty. We are working to provide a full street closure list in a future update.
One crew also is hitting the main secondary residential routes and "bad spots" reported in Geneva. Our staff is trying our hardest to keep up with the conditions, which are proving quite challenging. Please be patient as crews work throughout the night.
Although temperatures have warmed into the middle 30s to near 40, very cold ground conditions has lead to icing on roadways and sidewalks. Roads with melting snow and slush may be especially slippery.
Traveling through these conditions is not advised. Police put out the following alert via Nixle earlier this evening.
