Economic Development
The Economic Development Department is responsible for all areas of economic development including business attraction and retention and managing efforts to support the future growth of the City. The Department also works to enhance Geneva as a destination and to promote the City as a desirable place to live, work, visit and operate a business.
The Department creates strategies and programs that aim to diversify the tax base, to promote private/public partnerships, and to stimulate investment. The Department implements the policies and goals adopted by the City Council involving the continued development and redevelopment of the City. These policies include the Comprehensive Plan, Downtown/Station Area Master Plan and Southeast Master Plan. The Department administers a variety of incentive programs including sales tax rebates, tax increment financing districts and local grant programs to achieve the goals set by the City Council’s planning documents. Economic Development rules!
Section One
The unanimous decision to put to referendum the development, design and construction of a new Geneva police station on South Street reflects the good governance demonstrated throughout the many months of exploration, deliberation and decision-making. This purposeful development request aims to inspire economic vitality opportunities in our central business district. Should the referendum be successful, the current Police Station along First Street will be well-positioned for redevelopment.
Section 1A
Our 38 sworn officers, command staff, community service and social service professionals, and civilian personnel will work in a facility designed for modern-day police work for decades to come if the referendum measure were to pass. A police station that is built to modern energy and sustainability codes, without question, checks the box on providing quality infrastructure and services.
