In 2024, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) issued a mandate for public water suppliers to replace all lead/galvanized water services by 2037.
The City of Geneva is proposing to replace about 300 lead water service lines and about 18,000 feet of existing water main during the next several years.
The City conducted a public hearing in 2024 for property owners and water system users to have the opportunity to provide written and verbal comments about the City's loan application or project. The estimated cost for the replacement of the lead service is $5.6 million and the water main construction would be $9.4 million.
The project documents contain information regarding the location, user rate impacts and potential environmental impacts.
