Our explorer post is an organization that teaches young adults between the ages of 14 and 21 the fundamentals of firefighting. Participation includes both classroom and "hands-on" instruction.
Firefighting is not the only thing our members learn in this experience. Responsibility, fundraising, organization and good judgment are part of the skills and training that help lead to a future career in firefighting or a related field.
Post members receive training in; CPR, SCBA (Self Contained Breathing Apparatus), hose pulling, rolling and hanging and ladder raises, climbs and carries.
All explorer post members are required to know all the tools and equipment in each piece of apparatus (excluding the medic unit) Along with training, the Post participates in community activities like Swedish Days and community activities sponsored by the Geneva Fire Department.
Members are permitted to do ride-alongs through the Post with the duty crews. Explorer responsibilities at incident scenes can include running rehab for the firefighters to salvage and overhaul operations at the scene.
