Nearly 2,900 east side Geneva residents lost power at 9:36 a.m. Feb. 10 due to a failure of a ComEd substation located in West Chicago.
A substation busbar, which collects electricity from incoming feeds and distributes it to outside lines, became locked causing the service to drop. The City's Geneva Business Park and East Side Drive substations receive power from the ComEd substation.
The Geneva Public Works Department was in the process of redistributing customers to other City substations to bring customers back online when ComEd was able to isolate the problem on its end to fully restore power by 10 a.m. Feb. 10. The outage also impacted parts of West Chicago and St. Charles.
Geneva customers were without service for:
- 370 customers - six minutes
- 2,210 customers - 18 minutes
- 305 customers - 24 minutes
