Geneva Deputy Chief Matt Dean (center, joined by Geneva Deputy Police Chief Brian Maduzia, left, and Police Chief Eric Passarelli) recently graduated from the prestigious Northwestern University School of Police Staff and Command. The School of Police Staff & Command is an intensive leadership and management education program that helps prepare experienced law enforcement professionals for success in senior command positions.

Since its inception in 1983, law enforcement agencies throughout the United States and around the globe have recognized the importance this education program makes on their leadership and management teams. Through an innovative combination of academic principles with practical applications, the 10-week curriculum zeroes in on such critical command-level content as planning and policies, media relations, organizational behavior, budgeting and resource allocation, human resources, contemporary policing, and more.

Deputy Chief Dean joined the Geneva Police Department as a patrol officer in 2006. He rose through the ranks being promoted to Patrol Sergeant in 2016, serving as Detective Sergeant beginning in 2018, and finally, being promoted to Deputy Chief in 2022.

In his current role as Deputy Chief of Police Services, he oversees the Investigations Division and all civilian staff within the Police Department. He is also responsible for coordinating police services for all special events occurring in the City.
