Thousands of Geneva customers lost power multiple times following a storm that swept through Kane County July 5.
The first set of incidents started around 5:21 p.m. for 2,812 customers primarily living in the Eagle Brook, Fisher Farms and Randall Square subdivisions. ComEd lines feeding the City of Geneva Western Avenue and Delnor electric substations cut out intermittently causing the power to blink on and off several times. ComEd managed to stabilize the lines before 6 p.m.
Around 7:24 p.m., ComEd experienced a phase-to-ground fault that impacted 4,820 residents west of the Fox River that were served by the Western Avenue, Delnor and Peyton Street substations. ComEd crews switched the Western Avenue and Delnor substations to alternate sources of power on its sytem. The Geneva Public Works Department re-energized the Peyton Street substation from alternate feeds on the Geneva system.
Service was restored for all customers between 7:47 and 8 p.m.
While the City owns and operates its own utility, ComEd lines supply power to our Geneva electric substations.
As a reminder, residents should report outages after hours and on weekends to the Geneva Police Department non-emergency number at 630-232-4736. Police will then dispatch the on-call Public Works personnel. The City does not monitor social media channels and the online request system 24 hours a day.
