Union Pacific is building a third railroad line near the current UP-West railway tracks spanning from Peck Road in Geneva to West Chicago. Operations started in 2022 and the overall project is expected to be completed in 2024.
Oct. 18 Update
The commuter permit parking lot outside the Geneva train station was shut down for reconstruction starting in mid-October.
The parking lot, located on the west side of Third Street south of the tracks, is being moved further south to accommodate the future third rail line. The lot was partially closed this summer but still accessible for commuters until just recently.
Union Pacific hopes to have the parking lot completed by the end of 2023, weather permitting.
As a reminder, Platform No. 2 will remain closed for rehabilitation until the end of 2024, according to Union Pacific. A temporary train platform was built on the east side of Third Street for commuters.
