Union Pacific is building a third railroad line near the current UP-West railway tracks spanning from Peck Road in Geneva to West Chicago. Operations started in 2022 and the overall project is expected to be completed in 2024.
May 9 Update
Union Pacific informed the City that the Route 31 underpass shutdown will remain in place until the end of June, one week longer than originally forecasted.
The Fox River trail on the east side of the river will be closed intermittently Friday and Monday, May 10 and 13, as the Union Pacific contractor receives steel bridge beam deliveries for the railroad bridge. Flaggers will be in place to stop pedestrians and bicyclists for their safety when equipment is crossing the trail or steel pieces are in the air over the trail.
Deliveries will be made during normal business hours and can result in the trail being closed from 30 to 45 minutes before the girders are installed. Due to the potential for these stoppages, residents and trail enthusiasts may want to consider alternate routes.
