The original item was published from May 22, 2024 4:19 PM to August 1, 2024 12:00 AM

A strong wind storm caused several power outages, all of which stemmed from ComEd dropping power to Geneva substations during the early morning hours of May 22.

While the City owns and operates its own electric utility, ComEd power lines run through Geneva and supply power to City electric substations.

Service disruptions occurred in the following areas:

Pepper Valley

More than 1,450 customers lost service near Delnor Hospital, Pepper Valley and Fisher Farms subdivisions at 12:33 a.m. Geneva Public Works crews restored service between 1:03 and 1:33 a.m. by rerouting power to another substation.

State Street & Route 31

More than 2,000 customers lost power at 12:33 a.m. in an area north of State Street (Route 38) and west of Route 31 as well as a small portion south of State Street in the downtown Third Street area. Geneva Public Works crews restored service at 1:06 a.m. by rerouting power to another substation.

Allendale & Eagle Brook

Just under 1,350 customers lost electricity at 12:41 a.m. in the Allendale and Eagle Brook subdivisions as well Geneva Middle School South. Power was restored at 2:11 a.m. after ComEd repaired its feed.

As a reminder, customers can report power outages after hours by calling the Geneva Police Department non-emergency number at 630-232-4736. The City online request system and social media accounts are not monitored 24 hours a day.
