The City began an underground electric replacement project in March 2024 along Geneva Drive and South Third Street. Replacing underground utility cables enhances our electric service reliability in Geneva.
July 9 Update
Meade Electric, the City contractor, began working on Third Street the week of July 8 starting near the Union Pacific-West train tracks. Crews will be pulling electric cable through manholes from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, July 10-11, on the southeast corner of Third and South streets.
The project will require closing the eastbound South Street traffic lane at the Third Street intersection. The westbound South Street lane will remain open. Downtown patrons can use Second Street to access businesses and parking lots on South Street east of Third Street.
The sidewalk on the southeast corner of Third/South intersection will be shut down during construction, but access to local businesses will not be impacted. Work on the sidewalk only could extend into Friday, July 12.
The schedule is subject to change due to inclement weather.
Once work is finished near South Street, operations will shift north on Third Street to Fulton, Franklin, Campbell and James streets during July and August. All lanes of traffic will remain open on Third Street, but parking spaces and sections of sidewalk may be temporarily closed at various times. Construction will not occur in the days leading up to the Geneva Arts Fair on Saturday and Sunday, July 27-28.
Work on Geneva Drive has been substantially completed.
