Union Pacific is building a third railroad line near the current UP-West railway tracks spanning from Peck Road in Geneva to West Chicago. Operations started in 2022, and the overall project is expected to be completed in 2024 or possibly 2025.
July 11 Update
To accommodate ongoing rail construction, Metra midday service on some of Union Pacific West trains will originate and terminate at West Chicago on Sunday, July 14.
Two inbound trains that normally depart from Elburn at 10:25 a.m. and 12:25 p.m. will instead originate at West Chicago, departing at 10:45 a.m. and 12:45 p.m.
Two outbound trains scheduled to depart Chicago at 8:40 and 10:40 a.m. will terminate at West Chicago, meaning they will not make their normal stops at Geneva, La Fox and Elburn.
Rail commuters should visit Metra's website for the latest details.
