Geneva owns and operates its own electric utility, and we take great pride in providing reliable electric service to our residents and businesses. However, like all utilities, we are susceptible to outages caused by bad weather, animals, equipment issues and more. This blog is designed to provide updates on what caused outages after service has been restored. Large-scale incidents will be posted in real-time on the City's Alert Center on the our website homepage. Customers can subscribe to receive these updates via Notify Me.

[ARCHIVED] IDOT Route 31 ADA Improvements To Resume After Labor Day

The original item was published from August 21, 2024 4:16 PM to December 1, 2024 12:05 AM

The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) plans to finish the remaining work associated with its Route 31 ADA improvements in Geneva after the Labor Day holiday.

The State will reinstall the crosswalk it had previously removed at the Peyton Street intersection. Other work centers around completing landscaping at several Route 31 intersections.

The project began last fall, and continued this year at the following Route 31 intersections:

  • North Street;
  • Stevens Street;
  • Ford Street;
  • Peyton Street (crosswalk removed but set to be reinstalled);
  • Hamilton Street (including removal of sidewalk crossing);
  • State Street (Route 38);
  • James Street;
  • Campbell Street (including removal of southern sidewalk crossing);
  • Franklin Street (including removal of sidewalk crossing); and
  • Third Street.

The project is being managed by IDOT, which also decided to remove the selected sidewalk crossings. The City of Geneva does not have jurisdiction on the matter given Route 31 is a state highway.
