However, like all utilities, we are susceptible to outages caused by bad weather, animals, equipment issues and more. This blog is designed to provide updates on what caused outages after service has been restored. Large-scale incidents will be posted in real-time on the City's Alert Center on the our website homepage. Customers can subscribe to receive these updates via Notify Me.

[ARCHIVED] Union Pacific Third Main Line Project - Western Avenue Reopened Nov. 15

"Third

Union Pacific is building a third railroad line near the current UP-West railway tracks spanning from Peck Road in Geneva to West Chicago. Operations started in 2022, and the overall project is expected to be completed in spring 2025. 

Nov. 15 Update

The contractor has opened the Western Avenue railroad crossing to motorists Nov. 15 after applying pavement markings. Detour signage still has to be removed from the area.

The Route 31 overflow parking lot south of the underpass could possibly be reopened by Tuesday, Nov. 26. The Fox River Trail on the west side of river is expected to be restored for public use on the same day.

The Third Street commuter permit parking lot on the southwest side of the tracks is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2024.

All schedules are subject to change due to weather or construction delays.
