However, like all utilities, we are susceptible to outages caused by bad weather, animals, equipment issues and more. This blog is designed to provide updates on what caused outages after service has been restored. [ARCHIVED] Union Pacific Third Main Line Project - Sept. 5 Update

Union Pacific is building a third railroad line near the current UP-West railway tracks spanning from Peck Road in Geneva to West Chicago. Operations started in 2022, and the overall project is expected to be completed in late 2024. 

Sept. 5 Update

Union Pacific stated crews will begin installing the third railroad track line in Geneva sometime after Monday, Sept. 9.

Work continues at the downtown Third Street railroad crossing, which is expected to remain closed to traffic for the remainder of September.

The contractor also adjusted the overall Third Main Line project completion date from spring 2025 to late 2024, weather permitting.
