Union Pacific is building a third railroad line near the current UP-West railway tracks spanning from Peck Road in Geneva to West Chicago. Operations started in 2022, and the overall project is expected to be completed in late 2024.
Sept. 13 Update
Union Pacific will be installing crossing panels across the Third Street train tracks on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 21-22.
The project will block north-south pedestrian access across the tracks during daytime hours both days. Limited pedestrian access at Third Street is expected to resume Monday, Sept. 23.
Union Pacific said the Third Street crossing will remain closed to traffic for the remainder of September. Once work wraps up on Third Street, operations are expected to shift over to Western Avenue.
