More than 2,000 west side customers experienced a power outage Dec. 1 on the west side of Geneva.

The incident occurred at 10:19 a.m. when an underground ComEd cable faulted, which dropped service to the City of Geneva Peyton Street substation. The outage area included north of State Street (Route 38) from River Lane west to Bradbury Lane as well as part of the downtown west of the Fox River and south of State Street.

While the City operates its own electric utility, ComEd service wires and cables supply power to City substations. Geneva interconnects with ComEd to allow the City to receive energy purchased from its regional service transmission provider, PJM.

The Geneva Public Works Department restored power to all 2,016 customers by 10:51 a.m. after transferring their service to other City substations.

As a reminder, Geneva residents should report after-hours or weekend power outages to the Geneva Police Department by calling 630-232-4736. Police will then dispatch the appropriate Public Works staff to respond to the incident. Our online request tracker system and social media accounts are not monitored 24 hours a day.
