Union Pacific is building a third railroad line near the current UP-West railway tracks spanning from Peck Road in Geneva to West Chicago. Operations started in 2022, and the overall project is expected to be completed in spring 2025.
Dec. 2 Update
The project contractor provided the City with an update on the Fox River Trail near the Union Pacific train bridge spanning the Fox River.
The primary north-south section of the eastern trail is open to pedestrians and cyclists. However, the east trail feeder (access from the Geneva Wastewater Treatment Plant entrance) is still under construction. The anticipated completion date is Friday, Dec. 20.
The western trail remains also remains closed to the public. This section of the trail is expected to reopen Friday, Dec. 13.
All schedules are subject to change due to weather or construction delays.
