Union Pacific is building a third railroad line near the current UP-West railway tracks spanning from Peck Road in Geneva to West Chicago. Operations started in 2022, and the overall project is expected to be completed in spring 2025.
Jan. 16 Update
Fence installation is scheduled to begin in the Third Street commuter parking lots, and signage will be added to the Route 31 overflow parking lot beginning the week of Jan. 20. All three lots will remain closed for the duration of the winter.
The Wastewater Treatment Plant fence will be replaced during the weeks of Jan. 20 and 27. The Fox River Trail access will remain open to the public during the project.
The general project contractor anticipates finishing construction this winter after punch list items and site restoration are finished. However, operations will continue into the spring as Union Pacific crews install the third rail, train track traffic signals and other railroad improvements. Union Pacific has not provided the City with a start date.
All schedules are subject to change due to weather or construction delays.
