Powering Up

"Power
Geneva owns and operates its own electric utility, and we take great pride in providing reliable electric service to our residents and businesses. However, like all utilities, we are susceptible to outages caused by bad weather, animals, equipment issues and more. This blog is designed to provide updates on what caused outages after service has been restored. Large-scale incidents will be posted in real-time on the City's Alert Center on the our website homepage. Customers can subscribe to receive these updates via Notify Me.

[ARCHIVED] Fiber Cable Installation Project Scheduled For Routes 31 & 38

The original item was published from May 6, 2025 2:58 PM to September 1, 2025 12:05 AM

AT&T will be installing underground fiber network cables Monday, May 12 at the northeast intersection of Route 31 and State Street (Route 38).

Most of the work will occur along the right-of-way near the sidewalks along both state highways. However, eastbound State Street will be limited to one lane just east of the intersection as crews access a manhole to make the fiber connection. Northbound Route 31 should remain open a majority of the day, but construction operations may shift traffic closer to the middle of the roadway.

With the sidewalk being removed and replaced on the northeast corner, pedestrians should use the west side crosswalk to safely cross State Street.

The fiber project is being done for State Farm, 1 N. First St. The contractor will be opening concrete and excavating in the area to provide enough room for AT&T to install the fiber cables.

Construction is weather-dependent. For more information, call the City of Geneva Public Works Department at 630-232-1501.
