Geneva owns and operates its own electric utility, and we take great pride in providing reliable electric service to our residents and businesses. However, like all utilities, we are susceptible to outages caused by bad weather, animals, equipment issues and more. This blog is designed to provide updates on what caused outages after service has been restored. Large-scale incidents will be posted in real-time on the City's Alert Center on our website homepage. StringWorks has been striking the right notes for musicians since 1997, and now the Geneva business has been recognized as one of Illinois' top manufacturers.

The Illinois Office of Tourism recognized StringWorks as an official "Illinois Made" recipient for 2025 for crafting violins, violas and cellos right here in Geneva. Mayor Kevin Burns and other local dignitaries congratulated StringWorks for its achievement during a visit to the company's showroom in October. Photos are available on the City's Facebook and Instagram accounts.

StringWorks earned the recognition after being nominated this winter for the State's sixth annual contest celebrating the manufacturing sector, Makers Madness: The Coolest Thing Made in Illinois.

The Illinois Made program was created by the Office of Tourism in 2016 to celebrate the diversity of small businesses across the state and support them by encouraging travel to all regions of Illinois. With this new 2025 class, there are currently 277 Makers in the Illinois Made program.

Originally started as a family-run violin shop in Wisconsin, StringWorks has grown into "a global community of musicians" and is now headquartered at 327 Franklin St. in beautiful downtown Geneva. You can learn more about the company's craftsmanship, professional expertise, instruments, and more on the StringWorks website.

Take a bow StringWorks on this fantastic accomplishment!
