Nearly 1,500 Geneva customers near Randall Road lost power at 12:23 p.m. Dec. 3 due to a failed relay at the Delnor electric substation.
A relay is an automatic switch that detects abnormal conditions in an electrical system, such as an overcurrent or short circuits, and sends a signal to a circuit breaker to trip and isolate the faulted section.
The outage impacted Delnor Hospital and customers along Randall Road, Heartland Drive, Husking Peg Lane, Lorraine Circle, Blackberry Drive, Colonial Drive, and the Fisher Farms subdivision.
Geneva Public Works crews switched the 1,474 customers to an alternate power source to restore service by 12:53 p.m.
