Union Pacific is building a third railroad line near the current UP-West railway tracks spanning from Peck Road in Geneva to West Chicago. Operations started in 2022 and the overall project is expected to be completed in September 2024.
Nov. 10 Update
Union Pacific is anticipating making additional repairs, not affiliated with the Third Main Line Project, to the Route 31 train bridge on Saturday, Nov. 11. Pending receiving Illinois Department of Transportation approval, the repairs would require closing one one lane with flaggers directing traffic near the underpass.
Union Pacific announced this week the Third Street commuter permit parking lots south of the tracks will remain closed to the public through at least August 2024 due to construction or nearby construction activity.
The contractor will continue to work on pre-train track installation projects throughout the Geneva rail corridor in the coming months as long as the weather remains favorable.
