The severe storms that swept through Geneva July 14 and 15 caused 20 power outages throughout the community.
Some of the outages stemmed from ComEd power lines dropping service to our substations. While the City of Geneva owns and operates its own electric utility, ComEd power lines feed the City’s substations. Geneva interconnects with ComEd to allow the City to receive energy purchased from its regional service transmission provider, PJM.
The most severe damage occurred north of State Street (Route 38), where the community is serviced by overhead wires. Trees and branches snapped electric poles and pulled down wires, causing significant outages that took days to repair in some cases. The City of Geneva would like to thank our Public Works Department crew and municipal mutual aid responders from Rantoul and Princeton for helping bring everyone back online.
