Powering Up

Geneva owns and operates its own electric utility, and we take great pride in providing reliable electric service to our residents and businesses. However, like all utilities, we are susceptible to outages caused by bad weather, animals, equipment issues and more. This blog is designed to provide updates on what caused outages after service has been restored. Large-scale incidents will be posted in real-time on the City's Alert Center on the our website homepage. Customers can subscribe to receive these updates via Notify Me.

Union Pacific is building a third railroad line near the current UP-West railway tracks spanning from Peck Road in Geneva to West Chicago. Operations started in 2022, and the overall project is expected to be completed in spring 2025.

Oct. 31 Update

The construction contractor will be working along the Fox River Trail just south of Island Park beginning Monday, Nov. 4. The contractor informed the Geneva Park District that work will last for about 10 days.

The Fox River Trail will be closed to northbound, southbound and feeder trail traffic. Trail patrons should adhere to signage where posted and plan for alternative routes.

All schedules are subject to change due to weather or construction delays.
