Geneva is an extremely safe community, but we are not immune from those seeking to commit crimes of opportunity. This was evident in February when 20 unlocked cars were reported burglarized.
We would like to provide some safety reminders that may lessen the likelihood of you falling victim to this type of criminal activity or encourage you to watch our latest episode of First Response with Geneva Police Officer Chuck Parisi.
Geneva Police Tips:
- Do not leave vehicles unattended with the doors unlocked, windows down, or the keys inside, even in your garage or driveway;
- Always take your car keys with you and lock your car doors;
- Take valuables with you or keep them out of sight by placing them in the trunk or using stow-and-go seating, preferably before arriving at your destination;
- Park in well-lit areas;
- Consider installing motion-detection lights outside your residence; and
- Remove your garage door opener from your car at night.
As always, if you see suspicious activity in your neighborhood, call 911 so a police officer can investigate the situation. Thanks for partnering with us to help deter car burglaries in our community.
