The City’s curbside leaf collection vacuum program is scheduled to restart operations the week of March 25 for all Geneva residents after inclement weather ended the program prematurely last fall.  

Kramer Tree Specialists crews will begin the final pickup on the City’s east side Monday, March 25 and work their way west throughout the community. Residents should have their leaves raked to the curb by 7 a.m. March 25 since zones are not being implemented. Work is anticipated to take one week, weather permitting.

The City’s annual curbside leaf program consists of three rounds of pickups for all residents each fall. However, a sudden and significant leaf drop combined with the early arrival of snow resulted in several schedule delays last year. Ultimately, the contractor was able to complete two pickups and determined – along with the City – to postpone the final round until March.

Leaf piles containing either yard waste or brush will not be collected. People also should make sure their leaf piles are clear of cars and other obstructions that would prevent Kramer’s vacuum trucks from accessing the parkways. Leaves placed at the curb after the crews have passed will not be picked up and will need to be disposed of as part of the City’s yard waste collection.

As a reminder, Geneva residents will have two opportunities to get rid of yard waste for free – no refuse stickers required – the weeks of March 18 and 25. Yard waste bags or Lakeshore Recycling’s yard waste carts should be placed outside on residents’ regular garbage day. Refuse stickers will need to be affixed to yard waste bags starting in April.
