[ARCHIVED] Geneva Community Can Celebrate Earth Day April 12

Geneva’s Natural Resources Committee invites the community for a day of education, celebration and action as part of its seventh annual Earth Day festivities.

The event will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 12 at Peck Farm Park, 4038 Kaneville Road. Residents can drop off business/personal papers to be shredded and can recycle electronics, No. 6 foam containers, natural wine corks and plastic gift cards.

Other Earth Day highlights include free bicycle tune-ups, food from local vendors, rain barrels and compost bins available for purchase, information from vendors supplying green-friendly products, free chair massages and health scans, and children’s entertainment. Families also are invited to walk Peck Farm Park to enjoy the sounds of nature.

The Earth Day Chalk Festival will be reborn again in the park’s circle drive, and artists are invited to display their creativity to greet visitors attending the celebration.

The Geneva Park District and Working Bikes have forged a partnership that will be new to this year’s event lineup. Visitors can drop off any bicycle, bike part, sewing machines and/or wheelchairs, and Working Bikes will repurpose the item to be used by someone else. All bicycles donated to Working Bikes will be refurbished by their experienced mechanics and sold.
