[ARCHIVED] Candidates Sought For Vacant City Treasurer Seat

Council Chambers

After the April 6 election garnered no filings for the office of City Treasurer, the City of Geneva is now seeking candidates for that seat.

Starting in 2003, Patrick McQueeny served 18 years as Geneva’s City Treasurer before deciding not to seek another term in office. The City Treasurer serves on the Police and Fire Pension Boards. The City Treasurer receives $2,000 in annual compensation, which is paid on a monthly basis. The term for this unfilled position runs through May 5, 2025.

Geneva residents interested in serving as City Treasurer should submit an application along with a letter of interest to Mayor Kevin Burns, City of Geneva, 22 S. First St., Geneva, IL 60134; Attn: City Treasurer Vacancy. The deadline is Thursday, June 10.

Candidates must meet the following eligibility requirements to be considered for the position:

  • Have resided within the corporate boundaries of the City of Geneva for at least one year prior to appointment;
  • Be a legal U.S. citizen;
  • Be a registered voter;
  • Have no felony convictions; and
  • Be current on taxes and payments to the City.

In addition, the Government Ethics Act requires upon appointment a statement of economic interest to be filed by the City Treasurer with the Kane County Clerk’s Office.

The successful candidate for City Treasurer will be appointed by Mayor Burns with the advice and consent of the City Council.

The application can be found on the City’s website. Questions can be directed to City Administrator Stephanie Dawkins at 630-232-8495.
