[ARCHIVED] Student Artwork To Illustrate City's Tree Calendar

Bike Challenge Tree Pledge

Did you know there are more than 2,000 spots to plant parkway trees in Geneva? To help spread the word, the City's Student Government Committee is inviting elementary students to illustrate a calendar highlighting the importance of trees in our community.

The art contest is open to Geneva students in first through fifth grades. Children can use crayons, colored pencils or markers to create their tree artwork on an 8.5 by 11-inch blank sheet of paper.

Get creative! Read up on why trees are important to the environment and the benefits they provide. Artwork could express how trees provide habitat for wildlife, clean the air, provide oxygen, offer shade, and create beauty and tranquility.

The submission deadline is Monday, April 17. Parents can enter one original piece of artwork per student in person at Geneva City Hall, 22 S. First St., or online through the City’s website. Visit the Parkway Tree Calendar Student Art Contest web page for submission forms and more information.

The City's Student Government Committee will review the submissions to determine which entries (selected from multiple grade levels and schools) will be included in the calendar. Winners will be honored at a future City Council meeting and will receive a free copy of the calendar when it is published during the summer.

Geneva residents interested in a new parkway tree can find available tree species and full details about the cost-sharing program on the City's parkway tree replacement program web page.
