[ARCHIVED] Comcast Announces Changes For Geneva Cable Customers Without Equipment

Geneva customers currently receiving Comcast cable’s “Limited Basic” service without any equipment will need to have devices added to their televisions to maintain their existing programming.

Comcast will begin encrypting its digital network signal for “Limited Basic” services Tuesday, Sept. 24. Encryption will reduce the need for home service calls and provide enhanced network security, according to Comcast.

When “Limited Basic” service is encrypted, all Xfinity video customers will need equipment supplied by Comcast connected to each television to continue receiving services.

Customers that have a set-top box, digital adapter or retail “CableCard” device connected to each television, or subscribe to a higher cable package, will not be impacted by this change.

Comcast customers without equipment will be entitled to receive devices at no additional charge or service fee for a limited period of time, according to the company. Comcast was required by the FCC to send notices to customers announcing the encryption changes.

Comcast has established a special toll free number, 855-860-8989, and website, www.comcast.com/digitaladapterinfo, so customers can learn more about the equipment and eligibility.

These changes have been made by Comcast, a private company, and not by the City of Geneva. Calls directed to the City will be referred back to Comcast.
