[ARCHIVED] Geneva Flag Lowered For Former Mayor Howard Smith

City Hall Flag Lowered

The City flag at Geneva City Hall has been lowered in memory of former Mayor Howard Smith, 98, who died Sept. 10.

Mr. Smith was raised in Geneva and graduated Geneva High School. He was elected Geneva's 25th Mayor in 1957 and served until 1961. Mayor Smith introduced John F. Kennedy at the Kane County Courthouse in downtown Geneva two weeks before the 1960 general election.

Mr. Smith practiced law in Geneva for more than six decades. His obituary can be found online.

The Geneva City Council will honor Mr. Smith with a moment of silence during its next meeting on Monday, Sept. 18.

The City of Geneva expresses its condolences to the Smith family and friends for their loss.
