[ARCHIVED] Man Charged With Assault, Battery In Connection With Delnor Hospital Incident

Justin B. Patzer

A Campton Hills man has been taken into custody in Indiana and now faces several felony charges in connection with an alleged attack of a relative at Delnor Hospital Jan. 27.

Justin B. Patzer, 31, has been charged with felony domestic battery, domestic battery and aggravated assault. He was taken into custody at 8:45 p.m. by the Hammond Police Department after Geneva Police secured charges for an arrest warrant. During the investigation, Geneva Police advised Hammond authorities of the possibility of Patzer being in Indiana.

Patzer will be taken to the Lake County Sheriff’s Department in Crown Point, Ind., Jan. 28 for an extradition hearing.

Geneva Police were dispatched at 9:35 a.m. to Delnor, 300 S. Randall Road, in reference to a man allegedly running through the hospital brandishing a knife. The man, later identified as Patzer, had been visiting a relative at the hospital when he allegedly attempted to choke another relative, pulled out a knife and made violent threats. Patzer then fled the hospital at about 9:45 a.m., and no knife injuries were reported.

The hospital campus and attached buildings were placed on lockdown and searched. Through the investigation, it was later determined Patzer had left the campus in a red 2004 Dodge Caravan.

During the event, Williamsburg and Heartland elementary schools were placed on a soft lockdown, which were lifted around 11:30 a.m.

The Geneva Police Department would like to thank a host of other police agencies that assisted with the investigation, the Geneva community for its cooperation and understanding and Delnor Hospital personnel. Without everyone’s help, this issue could not have come to a swift and safe conclusion.
