The Kautz Road reconstruction and widening project is a joint venture between the City of Geneva and St. Charles. Construction will occur from Swenson Avenue in St. Charles to just north of State Street (Route 38) in Geneva. The project will replace failing pavement, enhance freight mobility, mitigate drainage issues, complete trail connectivity, improve safety measures, and support economic development in the area.
Construction started in June 2024 and is expected to be substantially completed by the end of the year, with landscape restoration and other punch list items being finished in spring 2025.
July 30 Update
The contractor plans to remove the jersey barriers for center lane of Kautz Road on Friday, Aug. 2. Operations will then shift to the Kautz Road northbound lane on Monday, Aug. 5.
Two lanes of traffic will remain open after the traffic pattern change. Looking ahead to early September, Kautz Road will only be open for southbound traffic. More details will be announced in the coming weeks.
All construction activities are weather-dependent.
