[ARCHIVED] Geneva Police Investigating Multiple Car Burglaries

Police News - New Car

The Geneva Police Department is asking residents to lock their vehicles at night after 13 cars were discovered burglarized Oct. 10 primarily in the Fisher Farms subdivision.

Kane County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a suspicious man near their headquarters on Route 38 in unincorporated Kane County. The Kane County deputies arrested the man on unrelated charges. During their interaction with the man, deputies found stolen items later identified as proceeds from the various Geneva car burglaries that occurred during the early morning hours Oct. 10.

The car burglary crimes remain under investigation by the Kane County Sheriff’s Office and the Geneva Police Department.

At this time, Geneva Police officers have responded to reports of car burglaries at the following locations:

  • Four on Nelson Drive (400 and 500 blocks);
  • Three on Cannon Drive (400 and 600 blocks);
  • Two on Lorraine Circle (2500 and 2600 blocks);
  • Two on Fieldstone Drive (3100 and 3200 blocks);
  • One on Hillcrest Road (3200 block); and
  • One on Larsdotter Lane (200 block).

Anyone with information should call the Geneva Police Department at 630-232-4736.

Geneva Police continue to remind residents most car burglaries are preventable by locking car doors and removing valuables, such as computers, phones, electronics, purses, keys, garage door openers, etc. Residents also should make sure their garage door is closed, windows are secured, and access doors to the garage and home are locked.

People are encouraged to report all suspicious activity immediately to the Geneva Police Department by calling 911. Police have a better chance of solving crimes when information from residents is relayed promptly.

Outdoor lighting may act as a deterrent in some cases since many car burglaries are crimes of opportunity that occur under the cover of darkness. The Police Department would like to thank the community for working together to keep Geneva a safe place to live.
