The City of Geneva has lowered the City flag at City hall in memory of former Fire Chief Frank Johnson, 85, who died Dec. 16.
Born in 1939 in Geneva, Mr. Johnson served in the U.S. Navy from 1958-62. Following his military service, he returned home to begin a distinguished career in 1966 with the Geneva Fire Department, rising through the ranks to lieutenant in 1970, captain in 1974 and Fire Chief in 1980. Chief Johnson led the Geneva Fire Department for 16 years before retiring in 1996.
"The Fire Department and the community of Geneva held a special place in Frank's heart, and he was a beloved member of both," his obituary stated. "His contributions to the (Fire) Department and to the town shaped the lives of many and left a lasting impact."
The City of Geneva extends its condolences to the Johnson family and friends on their loss.
