[ARCHIVED] Calling All Gardeners - Beautification Committee Spring Planting Is April 11

It will soon be time to grab your trowel and rake and start planting vibrant colors for spring! The Geneva Beautification Committee is in full swing making plans for filling the downtown gardens with blooming flowers. They have also put out a call for help and are recruiting gardeners of all ages to join in the garden preparation and first planting of the season.

New volunteers should report at 8 a.m. Saturday, April 11 to the corner of Third and James streets in front of the Geneva Post Office. They will be given a garden location that could use their help. Volunteers who have already been assigned to a garden can go directly to their garden and begin planting the flowers that have been delivered to their area.

Volunteers are asked to bring pruning shears, rakes, brooms, shovels and trowels. Since the flowers enjoy a slight sprinkling of rain, the planting will continue unless there is a thunderstorm. If rain delays the planting, the rain date is 12:30 p.m. Sunday, April 12. Anyone interested in helping is welcome.

Entirely a volunteer effort, the Geneva Beautification Committee consists of individuals, families, organizations and businesses that adopt, plant and maintain gardens in Geneva’s business district. Students looking for community service hours can volunteer and receive credit.

For information on how to join check the committee's website or call Dorothy Flanagan at 630-208-0279 (evenings) or Sherri Weitl at 630-232-7494 (daytime).
