[ARCHIVED] Candidates Sought For Vacant City Treasurer Seat

City News

The City of Geneva is accepting applications to fill the vacant office of City Treasurer after no candidates filed to run for the seat during the April 1 election

The City Treasurer’s primary responsibility is to serve on the Police and Fire Pension boards, which meet quarterly. The City’s Finance Director manages the day-to-day operations of the Finance Department. The City Treasurer also serves as a signatory on City checks, reviews Treasurer’s reports submitted to the City Council, certifies and signs off on required state financial filings, executes the necessary signatures on debt issuance documents as required following City Council authorization, and provides assistance to the Finance Director as requested.

The City Treasurer receives $225/monthly in compensation. The term for this unfilled office runs through May 4, 2029.

Geneva residents interested in serving as City Treasurer should submit an online application along with a letter of interest. The deadline is Thursday, Aug. 7.

Candidates must meet the following eligibility requirements to be considered for the position:

  • Have resided within the City of Geneva’s corporate boundaries for at least one year prior to appointment;
  • Be a legal U.S. citizen;
  • Be a registered voter;
  • Have no felony convictions; and
  • Be current on taxes and payments to the City.

In accordance with the Government Ethics Act, the new City Treasurer must file a statement of economic interest with the Kane County Clerk’s Office upon appointment.

The successful candidate for City Treasurer will be appointed by Mayor Kevin Burns with the advice and consent of the City Council. Questions may be directed to City Administrator Stephanie Dawkins at 630-232-8495.
