The Illinois Department of Transportation’s (IDOT) Route 38 construction operations are scheduled to move east of Randall Road into Geneva next week.

Crews anticipate starting pavement grinding on West State Street from Randall Road to First Street the week of May 4, weather permitting. Motorists should expect daily lane closures and some loss of downtown parking spots throughout the project, which is expected to be finished by August.

Two lanes (one in each direction) will remain open for drivers at all times on West State Street, but people wanting to avoid the construction zone can take Fabyan Parkway as an alternate route.

A construction hours schedule has been established for paving operations occurring in Geneva. Work from Anderson Boulevard to First Street will primarily take place during overnight hours (8 p.m. to 6 a.m.) to alleviate the impact on the downtown business community. Construction from Bricher Road to Anderson Boulevard is scheduled to be performed during the day due to the proximity of residential homes along Route 38.

The state project calls for resurfacing Route 38 from western Kane County to Route 31 in downtown Geneva. The contractor has spent the past month adjusting manhole cover frames, patching the street and making curb improvements along West State Street.
