Mark your calendars for fun – and free entertainment – the next three Sunday nights as the Geneva Cultural Arts Commission presents its RiverPark Summer Series lineup.
The seventh annual Summer Series will be held at 6 p.m. July 12, July 19 and July 26 at RiverPark, located at North River Lane and Peyton Street just north of State Street. The programs will take place at the park’s stone amphitheater along the Fox River. Patrons can bring lawn chairs, blankets or even a picnic dinner.
The Need To Be Seen Radio Troupe kicks off the Series July 12 by taking its audience back before the advent of television with its unique brand of radio theatre. Entertaining crowds in the Fox Valley for the past five years, the Troupe recalls the golden age of radio when people had to use their imagination to picture the action listening to various voices and sound effects. This year’s performances will include the old-time stories of “The Thin Man – The Goofy Groom” and “Arsenic and Old Lace.”
On July 19, people can dust off their cowboy boots and hats to wear to the Penny Mae Dixon country western band. The band, known for its outstanding stage presence, has played at local fairs and regional festivals such as Milwaukee’s Summerfest, Nashville’s CMA Fest and Country Thunder. Those who love country music will not want to miss this show.
Finally, the Summer Series will conclude July 26 with Logical Fleadh traditional Irish music. Logical Fleadh pairs fiddle tunes associated with old-time Irish/Scottish songs with a driving rock rhythm of contemporary music. Since its formation, the group has performed throughout the greater Chicago region at local restaurants and music festivals.
All performances are free of charge, but donations to the City of Geneva’s Cultural Arts Commission are always welcome. In case of inclement weather, performances will be moved inside to the Fellowship Hall of the United Methodist Church of Geneva, 211 Hamilton St.
