[ARCHIVED] Geneva Supports Northern Illinois Food Bank's Hunger Action Month Campaign

The City of Geneva will be hosting a community food drive throughout September to help promote the Northern Illinois Food Bank’s Hunger Action Month campaign.

Hunger Action Month raises money and resources while bringing awareness to the hunger problem across the United States. Located in Geneva, Northern Illinois Food Bank provides meals to those facing hardship in Kane County and across the region.

“While the need is great, even the smallest of gestures and donations make a difference,” Mayor Kevin Burns said. “I proudly invite the citizens and businesses of Geneva to give from the heart and help our neighbors.”

Residents, businesses and City employees are encouraged to bring in non-perishable food donations to drop off at Northern Illinois Food Bank boxes located in our municipal buildings, including:

• City Hall, 22 S. First St.;
• Finance Division, 15 S. First St.;
• Police Department, 20 Police Plaza;
• Fire Station No. 1, 200 East Side Drive;
• Fire Station No. 2, 2530 Fargo Blvd.; and
• Public Works Department, 1800 South St.

The donation boxes will be accessible during normal business hours, which are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. (7 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Public Works).

The City also will help promote Hunger Action Month by placing campaign yard signs in front of our public buildings, featuring the Food Bank on an upcoming show on Geneva Broadcast Network’s “Business Beat” and supporting the cause through our various communication outlets.

The Northern Illinois Food Bank is a non-profit organization that provides meals and programs serving more than 71,000 people each week. With the mission of solving hunger in a 13-county area, the Food Bank works with local food pantries, food manufacturers, feeding programs, companies, foundations and volunteers to achieve that goal.
