[ARCHIVED] Kane County’s Randall Road Traffic Signal Upgrades Will Include Flashing Yellow Turn Arrows

Starting Oct. 15, Kane County’s Division of Transportation will begin the removal and replacement of traffic signal mast arms and equipment on Randall Road between Glen Eagle Drive and Fargo Boulevard in Geneva.

The work will require closure of the side streets indicated in the schedule below from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Randall Road traffic will be allowed to flow without stopping at the various intersections while the traffic signals are being worked on each day.

Motorists will not be allowed to turn off of Randall Road during the closure of the side streets and are advised to utilize Bent Tree and Merchants drives to access the commercial areas. Only one intersection will be affected at a time to minimize the impact to motorists.

Here is Kane County’s Randall Road timeline and side street closure schedule:

• Glen Eagle Drive – Thursday, Oct. 15
• Christina Lane – Tuesday, Oct. 20
• Fargo Boulevard – Friday, Oct. 30

Kane County is expected to put message boards in place a week before each project to advise drivers of the pending work as well as directing them how to access local businesses. The City of Geneva’s Economic Development Department also will be reaching out to the Randall Road business community to alert them of the project.

On the day of a closure, crews will be:

• Setting up barricades and traffic control to prevent access to the side street,
• Installing new wiring and equipment on the mast arms,
• Adjusting the wiring in the traffic controller cabinet,
• Testing the new equipment, and
• Removing the old equipment.

Temporary lane closures along Randall Road will be required to accomplish this work. Please watch for flaggers and workers while traveling through the construction zone. Motorists should expect delays and are advised to consider alternate routes during the project.

Upon completion of the work, the new traffic signals will include a flashing yellow left-turn arrow. This flashing yellow arrow will allow motorists to turn left after yielding to oncoming traffic and pedestrians. Traffic waiting to turn left will receive the protected left-turn with a green arrow while oncoming traffic has a red light. While both directions have a green light, drivers waiting to turn left will receive the flashing yellow arrow indicating that they may only turn when it safe to do so.

Questions and concerns about the Randall Road project should be directed to Kane County Traffic Engineer Dave Boesch at 630-584-1170.
